Remember that trip we took 4 weeks after Levi was born? The one where we flew with 4 kids under 7 including a newborn across the country? Yeah, I still think we were nuts.
At the end of June last year we headed to North Carolina for the Hamilton family reunion. We decided if we were going to go, we might as well take our time while there and visit some friends as well. We had a lot of fun (especially the kids) but it was a looong trip for us and we were exhausted by the end.
First stop: Asheville, NC
We were super excited to get to visit our friends Matt and Whitney Donohue and their daughter Sadie in Asheville for a few days. To avoid lots of layovers and gross airports with a newborn, we flew into Raleigh/Durham Airport, rented a car, and then drove 3 hours to get to Asheville. (By the end of the trip, we'd be pros at road tripping with the 6 of us.)
With the Donohues we got to play at the park, eat good southern BBQ, and go on a few local adventures. We went to the NC Arboretum and it was gorgeous. The whole state is so incredibly green and lush and thick with trees and growth. SO different from dry California (that is beautiful in other ways, but definitely not green in the summer). We went on a trail, explored the bonsai garden (Taylor and Matt's favorite), found a lizard, the kids tried to collect every rock they found, and I went a little nuts with pictures. It was the perfect outing with lots of little kids.
